Queen Of The Castle

Never one to miss
An opportunity
I toss my heart away
In the form
Of a painted pebble
Thick brush strokes
Are coating slate
Too late
As of this date
It's staley mate
And the Queen
Of the Castle
Laughs
And the white knight
Shakes his head

But never one to miss
An opportunity
I grab my shield
And lance my
Faithful steed
Wants to advance
I yield
And let this barren field
Absorb my need
My passions prance
And bleed
And the Queen
Of the Castle
Flings her head back
As the black night
Closes in and I
Quake with queasy dread

I’m skimming stones
On a frozen lake
My armour’s dripping
Molten tears
My sword is broken
Mace displaced
And never one to miss
An opportunity
The Queen of the Castle’s
Going home
But not alone
And my brittle heart
Is beating
Loud enough
To wake the dead
